15 September 2017

Officials say a student was shot dead after attempting to confront a gunman at a high school south of Spokane, Washington, CBS affiliate KREM reports. "The Marysville School District will stand by them and provide the support and care needed in the days and months to come". Upon entering the premises, he proceeded to take out his weapons and attempted to fire one, which jammed. "The shooter is in the back seat of a patrol auto right now", Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said at a press briefing.

But the armed student wasn't swayed by those words and shot him.

It was reported that victims were being treated at a playing field, and local media later reported that two people were in a stable condition in hospital. It is located in the Freeman School District, in a small suburb of Spokane.

Police searched the high school's rooms for any additional threats, the sheriff's office said on Twitter.

The identity of the suspect has not been released.
