Nintendo Switch Likely Facing Stock Shortages This Holiday

12 September 2017

The Super NES Classic Edition is out on September 29 and Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime really doesn't want you to pay too much for it. Not only that but a technical glitch simply led to pre-orders going live before intended.

The SNES Classic Edition officially launches on September 29 priced at $79.99.

Stores blew through their stock in minutes, leading many to fear that getting their hands on one of the $80 retro gaming systems would be just as hard as it was to obtain last year's NES Classic Edition. According to Reggie, Nintendo was not holding back the stock on objective to create an artificial scarcity and added that they didn't produce enough units because retro consoles from other companies were not selling well which indicated that NES CLassic will also not sell well.

Storm Katia weakens after reaching Mexican coast
In its 4 p.m. advisory, the National Hurricane Center said Katia now has maximum sustained winds of 105 miles per hour . Forecasters say Hurricane Katia is making landfall on Mexico's Gulf coast as a Category 1 storm.

I'm not suggesting you should pay an inflated price on eBay - eff those people - but you should definitely keep your expectations in check. Talking about the possibility of VR coming to the company's latest product, the Nintendo Switch, Fils-Aime said that the "problem with VR is that there aren't a lot of experiences that are truly fun". Turn that frown upside-down my friend because, if Reggie Fils-Aime is to be believed, the holy house of Nintendo is going to take care of those greedy hoarders.

In short, if you can't find the SNES Classic on store shelves, don't be so desperate to get one that you pay a large amount over MSRP.

As for Nintendo Switch, availability is a bit less certain.

Detroit Lions roll in 4th quarter to beat Arizona Cardinals, 35-23
The Arizona Cardinals announced running back David Johnson suffered a wrist injury in Sunday's 35-23 loss to the Detroit Lions . And second-year defense end Anthony Zettel posted the Lions' only sack of the game, and just the second of his career.

Despite retailing for $79.99, the NES Classic was going for upwards of $200 on eBay nearly immediately.

Despite feeling like "the demand is there and the supply chain is there", Fils-Aime is concerned that the demand is still growing and might be unmanageable in time for the holiday period. Can we do more?

'Get out' of Hurricane Irma's way, urges US President Donald Trump
Mar-a-Lago, which overlooks the ocean on Palm Beach, was built in 1927. "I was there for all of [the hurricanes]". A White House official said Trump would continue to receive regular updates on Hurricanes Irma and Jose.
