EU Extends Sanctions On Russia Over Siemans Turbine Delivery To Crimea

06 August 2017

"This is the reason why, in accordance with a sad tradition, no legal arguments for blacklisting the Russian Energy Ministry officials have been provided", the statement adds. Moscow denies the allegation.

The European Union extended sanctions on Russian individuals and entities over the delivery of Siemans turbines to Crimea which violated prior EU restrictions due to the Russian annexation of the area. Although European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker earlier said that EU members are seriously concerned about the outbreak of a new Cold War, it doesn't mean that Brussels will drastically change its policy.

Rajya Sabha polls will have the Nota option
The Congress has been rattled by a flurry of resignations from its MLAs. "Gujarat elections will be over by then". The NOTA - none of the above - gives voters an additional option to reject all the candidates in fray.

According to Minister of Foreign Affairs Sven Mikser, such actions undermine the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

The EU decision to blacklist two Russian Energy Ministry officials is puzzling, while its interference in the dispute between Siemens and Russia's Technopromexport (part of the Rostec Corporation) violates worldwide law, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday. The move follows the transfer of gas turbines to the area.

US, Japan taking action against North Korea after latest missile launch
Reportedly, the missile proved its ability to strike America's mainland, drawing a sharp warning from US President Donald Trump . However, US defence secretary James Mattis warned last month that a conflict could result in tragedy "on an unbelievable scale".

However, Siemens-whose officials have always said that there were no plans to provide such turbines-risks violating the European Union sanctions against Russian Federation, which state that "goods and technology for the transport, telecommunications and energy sectors or the exploration of oil, gas and mineral resources may not be exported to Crimean companies or for use in Crimea".

The EU sanctions in question consist of an asset freeze and a travel ban which will now apply to a total of 153 persons and 40 entities based in or affiliated with Russian Federation.
