Pokémon Go Fest attendees file class-action lawsuit against Niantic

31 July 2017

For large events such as Pokemon GO Fest where cell phones will need to be used avidly, organizers generally partner with wireless providers for pop-up cell towers to boost signal within an area. Lead plaintiff Jonathan Norton came to the July 22 Chicago event from California, but the lawsuit is seeking monetary damages to recover the travel expenses of attendees who came from around the globe. This week some of event's attendees are banding together to sue Niantic over just how bad the experience was. The Pokemon GO Fest, as it was called, was not free of hassles.

Pokemon Go Safari Events at the Mall of Scandinavia in Stockholm, Sweden and the Stadshart Amstelveen in The Netherlands were originally scheduled for August 12. Everyone was then annoyed to know when the game wasn't working.

GDP Rises in 2nd Quarter
Personal consumption, which makes the biggest contribution to growth, rose by 2.8% as economists had expected. His budget is based on forecasts that growth will rise steadily and hit sustained rates of 3 percent by 2021.

Niantic swiftly offered full ticket refunds and in-game credits to attendees, as well as the rare Pokémon they missed out on. Unfortunately, for Zimmerman and others, this wasn't enough.

"We're not seeking any relief with respect to the failure to get legendary Pokémon, because Niantic is offering that", Zimmerman told Polygon. Many people had traveled from other states just to attend the event.

Officials from US Strategic Command are now claiming that the rocket failed, and might conceivably have blown up before it reached space.

Zimmerman said the class-action suit is asking for money spent on travel to be recouped, as "promises" made by Niantic "were not kept". Zimmerman asked, further cementing his belief and desire to defend his clients. As a way of apologizing to European players affected by these delays, Niantic says that several Pokemon "rarely seen in Europe" will start appearing in a number of cities in the region.

It definitely doesn't look good for Niantic right now. As previously reported, the shindig didn't go quite as planned. While it's always hard to foresee technical difficulties - Niantic blames "cellular traffic" for the reason their app didn't work - it certainly doesn't help when the focus of the event was about playing the game.
