Amazon could be working on a messaging app

17 July 2017

Amazon is reportedly working on a new Messaging app named with AnyTime to compete against the popular Messaging apps such as, Facebook Messenger, SnapChat, WeChat and more.

Of course it will have the usual messaging, video and voice calls, which are standards for any messaging app.

Will be "private and secure" by encrypting important messages, such as bank accounts. There's also a "reach all your friends just using their name" feature where you won't need phone numbers, but we don't know exactly how that will work yet. This feature suggests the app will connect to existing social networks.

We're in danger of heading back to the days of the late-90s/early 00s where we were overwhelmed by instant messaging tools, very few of which were compatible with one another. There are countless other companies that have carved niches for themselves in the mobile messaging arena.

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is never afraid to try out new products and services, but its new Anytime messaging service is a true first for the retail giant. Moreover, Anytime will also have fringes like photos with filters, play games and engaging with users, say reports.

With Amazon not making a peep about what Anytime is, there is more speculation than actual information at this time. Earlier this year, it announced Chime, a video conferencing app for its business-minded users, created to rival with existing services such as Skype for Business or WebEx.

It's not outlandish to think Amazon may want to enter this market.
