One-time Republican congressman and frequent presidential cable news foil Joe Scarborough announced Tuesday night that he would leave the GOP. Scarborough said, "I mean, I guess it runs in the family to go on Twitter when he is clearly in legal jeopardy".
Colbert asked Scarborough about the Republican Party's apparent unwavering support for President Donald Trump. "It's black and white.' I said I can never vote for anybody in my party that would say they are going to ban people because of the god they worshiped". And what are they doing about cutting Medicare and Medicaid and transferring those funds toward tax breaks for the wealthy?
Scarborough, who was referred to by President Donald Trump as "Psycho Joe" in a tweet two weeks ago, said his issues with the GOP began before Trump took office. "How far are they willing to go?" he asked. How much of this country and its values are they willing to sell out?"

"I think it's inexplicable", Scarborough answered.

"It's a shame there are so few Republicans speaking truth to power", he tweeted.
Trump beat Democrat Hillary Clinton last November in the most divisive presidential election in modern USA politics, in which a gulf between Republicans and Democrats has widened and hardened over ideological positions on social and economic issues.
