SpaceX kicks off its first launch today from Kennedy Space Center's Pad 39A, where it will send off a Falcon 9 rocket with a previously-used booster.
SpaceX will attempt to recover the booster from this mission on an unmanned drone ship stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.
Being able to re-launch and re-use the first stage boosters is important for SpaceX and its customers.
Fleury among players exposed for Vegas NHL expansion draft
The Knights have already signed 30-year-old Russian center Vadim Shipachyov , who scored 26 goals and had 76 points for SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL this season, as well as WHL forward Reid Duke , 21, and Czech forward Tomas Hyka , 24.
"This is the fastest SpaceX has ever attempted to launch two rockets", CBS News space correspondent Bill Harwood said.
Also, because the satellite's target orbit was tens of thousands of miles higher than a low-Earth orbit, the booster had barely enough fuel to land; in fact, Musk didn't expect it to survive. The first time SpaceX-and indeed, any company-reused an orbital rocket was only a few months ago. It's the second of eight planned Iridium NEXT launches for the commercial satellite company.
BulgariaSat-1, the first geostationary communications satellite in Bulgaria's history, was successfully deployed about 35 minutes after launch. With the successful reuse of a Dragon capsule having occurred just over two weeks ago, it is truly an auspicious year for SpaceX in terms of progressing their program of reuse and improving affordable access to space.
Today's countdown was delayed by an hour to run additional ground checks, but the two-stage Falcon 9 rocket made a trouble-free liftoff at 3:10 p.m. ET (12:10 p.m. PT), in the middle of a two-hour launch window. "I think, in the future, it's going to be even more affordable because of reusability". At least we should get a good fireball!
Senate Judiciary Committee Investigating Loretta Lynch
Additionally, the senators asked if the Federal Bureau of Investigation contacted them to investigate the alleged communications. Lynch last June met with the 42 president aboard a private plane on the tarmac of the Phoenix Airport.
SpaceX has become expert at recovering the rockets.
An engine test of the Falcon 9 at Vandenberg was completed Wednesday setting up SpaceX for the launch with no issues. For Bulgaria, it's the first satellite the country has ever launched. That satellite will provide broadcast and communications service throughout eastern Europe.
The reusable nature of SpaceX's delivery rockets is a concerted effort to drive down costs associated with space travel and transport.
