Warriors favored over LeBron and Cavaliers in the Finals

29 May 2017

LeBron James needed 28 points on Thursday night to pass Michael Jordan as the NBA's all-time playoff scoring leader.

The Browns came out on top the following year, ending a run of three straight title game losses (they also lost to the Rams in 1951).

In 1921 and '22, the New York Giants beat the New York Yankees in the World Series, with the Yankees winning in '23. But then he added this: "OK, maybe a slight preference for Cleveland". He's scheduled to make just $6.3 million during the 2017-18 season, be a salary less than what the Celtics will pay the No. 1 overall pick ($7 million at 120 percent of the rookie scale).

It's a matchup that many have assumed would happen for the past year, but the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers are finally officially set to meet in the 2017 NBA Finals.

During his speech before the American service members in Sicily, Trump thanked the military crowd that stood before him and praised them as "patriots who keep the fires of liberty burning".

The Cavs will have a week off after their 33-point drubbing of the Boston Celtics to end the Eastern Conference Finals, but that's nothing compared to the layoff that the Warriors will have.

John McGraw's Giants won the rematch the following year 4-0 with one tie before Ruth gave the Yankees their first title the following year to cap the first season at Yankee Stadium. For the most part, the fans, at least the ones loyal or naïvely optimistic enough to remain in the arena for most of the game, seemed to be keenly aware of the fact that these Celtics had gone as far as their talent could take them. They did a great job.

Let the hype, and the waiting, begin: Game 1 isn't until June 1. We'll go from there. They clinched the best record in the East, made it to the conference finals and, thanks to the Brooklyn Nets, they have the top pick in the upcoming National Basketball Association draft.

"I know this sounds weird but I think his anger (has helped)", said Bradley.

James said of the Warriors, "The best team in our league the last three years".

"I'll take LeBron James, absolutely", said Laimbeer on The Rematch podcast."You can't double-team, he's too big, he powers through everything". "We want to go take back a championship, that's just the nature of a competitor and I think that's the mindset of everyone in this organization to go take back what they took from us".

A $100 bet on the Warriors would win $38.46; the same bet on the Cavaliers would win $220. The Cavs were solid yet unconvincing in a 51-win regular season that saw them finish with the second seed in the Eastern Conference, while the Warriors were never in doubt of finishing atop the standings with a 67-win season. But against Boston the likes of Love and Irving gave Cleveland's upcoming opponents a timely reminder that the Cavs boast a three-pronged attack which works to devastating effect when in sync.

Cleveland forward LeBron James moved past Hall of Famer Michael Jordan as the leading scorer in NBA playoff history on his way to helping the Cavaliers ease into a third successive NBA Finals series on Thursday.

French President Emmanuel Macron praised President Donald Trump's "capacity to listen" and his "intention to progress with us". Needless to say, Trump and Macron are going to be seeing a lot more of each other over the next several years.

Kyrie Irving - who scored 42 points in Cleveland's game-four victory - added 24 points and Kevin Love contributed 15. "It's a special night tonight". They got a big scare in late February when Durant had a left knee injury, but he's back and the Warriors have rolled since. "We know what he brings to this game as a whole, brings to this league, our organization". We're only four games away from our goal, but that's all got to start next Thursday.
