Maulana Noorur Rehman Barkati, the Shahi Imam of the city's Tipu Sultan Mosque, who has repeatedly courted controversy for his comments, was on Wednesday served a "notice of termination of service" by trustee of the estate which runs the mosque.
The trustee board had filed a police complaint against Barkati for forcefully snatching away the keys of the mosque's rooms, including the record room. The Imam Barkati crossed all limits and used an abusive word against Shukla on CNN News 18, which was condemned by all the panellists, and the reactions were mirorred by the reactions of Twitterati thereafter too.
Week ago, Barkati triggered huge controversy after he refused to remove red beacon from his vehicle, when Central government's ban on lal batti has come into effect since May 1. "I had to get admitted in the hospital", Ali said, adding that Shahi Imam Barkati was appointed on the basis of the recommendation of Mautawalli and decision of the trustee board. He first targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon after the demonetization saga and then threatened of even Jihad if India is declared Hindu Nation which is something that defies the constitution of India.
Bridge collapse: Rescue op on, govt to raze unsafe bridges
According to the police, around 20 people swam to safety, while another 14 were rescued and taken to hospitals nearby. A spokesman of the Indian Navy said the collapsed part of the bridge had been removed last night.
Later Imam Barkati drew flak when he expressed his wish to fight for Pakistan. However political analysts say the removal had the support of Mamata as her government had highly been embarrassed by the irresponsible comments of the cleric.
Imam is the second generation of his family that was created for administrating the Namaaz for the Royal Family.
The controversial cleric is considered to be close to the ruling Trinamool Congress.
U.S. airlines meet Homeland Security officials over laptop ban
An industry-backed group, the Airline Passenger Experience Association, said the USA government should consider alternatives. DHS has yet to confirm that the ban will be extended, but said it continues to "evaluate the threat environment".
His termination was followed by his refusal to remove the red beacon from his vehicle.
"There is no reason to think that he is above the law", he added. The reports suggest that the board is miffed with the Anti-National comments that have brought a tremendous amount of displeasure for the community as well. "If he wants to enter active politics he must discontinue as imam", said Abrar. "I will speak to the Chief Minister in this regard", he said.
"No, there was no political pressure on me to remove the red light".
