GOP candidate for FBI says no special counsel for inquiry

John Cornyn, the second-ranking Republican in the Senate. But when Fox News broke a short list of people who would be interviewing for the job with Cornyn on it, the speculation broke in two ways. But in the days afterward, the White House struggled to maintain a consistent explanation for the firing, with Trump contradicting his communications team and saying it was "not possible" for them to be accurate all the time. At a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on Thursday, he heaped praise on his former boss and did not hesitate to rebut narratives advanced by the White House, including its attempt to minimise the Russian Federation probe.

Cornyn is a longtime senator who dutifully rose the ranks to become majority whip, and muses about queso on Twitter.

Cornyn met over the weekend with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who is part of the Trump administration's selection committee for the new Federal Bureau of Investigation director. "These are outstanding people that are very well known".

Fisher is a former assistant US attorney general in charge of the Justice Department's criminal division and is now a partner in Latham & Watkins' Washington, D.C. office. Texas law allows the governor to appoint an interim replacement, but only until a permanent replacement can be elected, either at a special election or at the next uniform election date (in this case, presumably the November 7 election).

A January report from the USA intelligence community concluded that Russian Federation did indeed meddle in the election, but Mr. Burr has said he was troubled by the Comey firing but would continue to press ahead with his investigation wherever it leads.

And if Patrick were to succeed Cornyn in Washington, the members of the Texas Senate would select his successor until a new lieutenant governor was elected in 2018.

"I think the process is going to go quickly", Trump said.

The latest example of his too-rare rationality was his objection to the suggestion that President Trump should appoint Graham's colleague Sen.

Rebecca Treviño, who is graduating with a degree in social work, said she and a group of others from her social work classes chose to start the petition to raise awareness about Cornyn's stance on key issues.

Why US President Donald Trump was insane to talk about tapes
After all, those close to the president are having a rough week of defending him after the firing of FBI Director James Comey . Trump placed calls to nine members of Congress on Tuesday to alert them of his decision, according to the White House.

"That's a ridiculous position", Cornyn said May 10, the day after Comey was sacked.

That decision followed clashes over President Donald Trump, and the cancellation of an appearance by right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos amid destructive student disturbances. "But these are not normal circumstances". But the FBI mission has changed drastically since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, with the bureau now as much a part of the nation's intelligence apparatus as it is a law enforcement body.

Cornyn would not comment about Trump's threats to release a tape of his conversations with Comey - or if Congress should obtain those tapes.

The latest PA general election projection also had the Conservatives well ahead with 381 projected seats and Labour on 181. And the SNP have not had any difficulty increasing their vote in local by-elections during the last two years.
