Why US President Donald Trump was insane to talk about tapes

15 May 2017

Donald Trump warned ousted FBI director James Comey on Friday (May 12) not to talk to the media, a highly unusual move that prompted fresh charges the President is trying to silence the man who led an investigation into possible collusion between Trump's election campaign and Russian Federation.

Agents gained a new sense of urgency Tuesday when President Donald Trump fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, which has sparked fear among investigators that the administration will hamper their efforts.

Comey's firing ignited a firestorm in Washington and has prompted speculation over whether Trump's decision hinged on his apparent anger at the FBI's probe into the Trump campaign's potential collusion with Russian Federation during the 2016 election.

The White House had said Trump fired Comey on the recommendation of the top Justice Department officials: Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Rosenstein.

After all, those close to the president are having a rough week of defending him after the firing of FBI Director James Comey. Comey had come under intense scrutiny for his role in the FBI's investigation into the email practices of Trump's opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton, and the reopening of the investigation just days before the election. "Nearly all of them are very well known", Trump said aboard the plane that took him to Lynchburg, Virginia, where he gave the commencement address at Liberty University.

He added, "Maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future "press briefings" and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???"

He had a standard pitch raring to go but quickly learned Ritchie didn't want to even talk about the movie. One of the biggest treats of watching the film was David Beckham's cameo as an angry solider type.

The furore over Comey's firing has put McCabe, the acting director, in a delicate position.

Comey has not publicly discussed any conversations he has had with Trump. At least they got more of a heads up than Chief Strategist Steve Bannon, who found out about Comey's firing the same way Comey himself did - watching the news.

Trump said that in those conversations Comey told him he wasn't under investigation.

Democratic Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi of IL, who serves on the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter to White House Counsel Don McGahn on Friday afternoon asking for copies of any tapes involving conversations with Comey that might exist, according to a report by NPR. There is also reportedly tension between Republican officials and the White House over tactics.

Yesterday however, Mr Trump said he would have taken the action regardless. "My decision", Mr Trump said.

Reporters also peppered Spicer with questions about whether Trump was recording in the Oval Office and Spicer responded that he had nothing further to say.

The Sixers have their own selection, with a 100 percent of receiving a top seven selection in the NBA Draft Lottery . With that in mind, here are a few prospects who could be legitimate options for the Lakers at No. 28 overall.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump's administration was left red-faced Thursday after the Moscow surprised it by releasing pictures of a closed-door meeting between the United States president and Russia's top diplomat.

Acting Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Andrew McCabe Thursday said ongoing investigation into alledged links between White House staff and Russian Federation will continue.

Sullivan, however, believes the news media's presence in Washington has become even more pivotal under a Trump presidency "because we are telling people things they need to know about an administration that is spinning and it's quite opaque".

This isn't the first time the Trump administration has threatened to upend the conventions of D.C. reporting.

Trump placed calls to nine members of Congress on Tuesday to alert them of his decision, according to the White House.
