" It's pretty hectic", Lieutenant Pat Gengler of the Kane County Sheriff's Department told FOX 32 Chicago. Delnor-Community Hospital was on lockdown Saturday afternoon after Tywon Salters, an inmate in the custody of the Kane County Jail, grabbed a correctional officer's weapon.
The SWAT team attempted to negotiate with Salters over the telephone for several hours, but eventually, communications broke down, which is when a decision was made to break into the room to rescue the hostage, police said.
"All of the patients are secure and safe", said Delnor Hospital spokeswoman Kimberly Waterman. Gengler identified the inmate as 21-year-old Tywon Salters.
